the gardeners…

sophia & i are now “harvesting” our basil & tomatoes every-other evening. it is a perfect amount of time for the two of us to get outside & take in some much needed fresh air…  all 5 of us are starting to get a little cranky, we are just so darn hot & we don’t want to go anywhere because the terrible heat absolutely takes your breathe away the moment you step outside. today, sophia had a fever throughout the afternoon & she was just lathargic, she was the same way yesterday too, only without the fever. today i figured out why she has been feeling this way… she has two new top teeth & they have already cut through!!  no wonder she has been uncomftorable & a little cranky & just not quite herself, & tonite i noticed there are also two teeth just about to cut through on the bottom. my tough little girl…

i will say it again & again & again & again… you bring this family so much joy sophia, you bring us all so much love in our hearts, you are so incredibely loved, you are my daughter, my baby girl & i am SO VERY THANKFUL FOR YOU…

my gardening partner…

her smile is contagious. her smile warms my heart. her smile fills up my heart. her smile brings me so much joy. her smile is love.

tonite was the first night that she deliberately picked only the red tomatoes, she picked & tried to eat only 1 green one & as soon as she tasted it she spit it right out.

tonite was also the first night that she would pick the tomato & then put it into our dish that we collect them in & she did it all on her own.

what a smarty-pants!!

looking for the ripe ones…

i love that when she is eating the tomatoes she enjoys them so much that when she takes a bite all i hear is… “mmmmmhmmmmm”.   if she were just a bit older i know she would be saying… “dddeliciouuussss” just like jarred would say when he was 2 years & reeeealllly enjoying his meal, usually reserved for clam chowder or other seafood…

instead of just sucking the juices out & moving on to the next one, over & over & over again… she was actually EATING the tomatoes tonite…

those eyes, they are so very beautiful…

sophia, i know that gardening is something that we will be enjoying together for many years to come.

mikayla & i have been gardening together since she was just a little girl, it is something that we have always enjoyed doing together & every year she still helps me…  last fall mikayla, jarred, grammy mary & i put bulbs into the ground & this spring we had tulips & other beautiful flowers all around the yard. this spring mikayla helped me so much with the hard work of getting the “beds” ready to plant & then the fun part of getting all of our seeds, vegetables & annuals planted. you were there too sophia, sitting in your stroller watching us work.

i know that next spring, it will be the 3 of us out there planting & tending to the garden together… & i am looking forward to that.

i know how lucky i am that i get to garden with my 2 beautiful daughters…

(i love the bocea in this picture)

tonite i realized that although i really do love to have beautiful flowers all around the yard & yummy vegi’s straight from our garden…

now i have an even better reason to garden, it is something for just us girls to enjoy together, time for the 3 of us to get outside & dig in the dirt & get dirty & create something beautiful & laugh & talk & learn… doesn’t get any better than that.

sophia mikayla & mommy… we are the gardeners.
